Arepas

Lasting more than a hundred years, arepas are an extremely versatile food that can be paired with a variety of fillings. Listen to what Deicira Torres, the volunteer coordinator at the Branch, has to say about arepas:

"For a Venezuelan, it is the food that can brighten a heart. It is the perfect excuse to spend time with family or friends. You can add fillings to make it special, and it is the protagonist of the table.

At my grandmother's house, it was impossible to get home and not be asked, 'Have you eaten yet? Do you want an arepa?'

Arepas are a part of the life of a Venezuelan. Now that we have emigrated throughout the world, there are arepas in any corner of the planet. A Venezuelan flag is raised wherever an arepa is eaten!"
